Remarks
Factors for choosing the college-Vicinity of the college from my hometown, reputation of the college, good placement record. The college is also one of the top engineering colleges in India, so the choice was obvious. I took reference from youtube while selecting this college.
Course Curriculum Overview
The chose Mechanical engineering because I had interest in this field. My rank was not good enough for securing CSE so I chose Mechanical as it was my second preference. The student teacher ratio is not so good. All the faculties are highly qualified and experienced. End Term exams are held every 6months(at the end of each semester). At the middle of the semester, midterm exam is taken. At a duration of 1 month after commencement of a semester an exam is taken. So total 3 exams are taken in a semester. The exams are not very difficult to pass.
Internships Opportunities
I have not opted for any internship. One can work as a research intern in the college but other than that, there is not much opportunity for internships.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for placements from the 4th year. Almost all major companies such as qualcomm, Tata, JP morgan, etc visit the college. Plenty of job offers are given. Many students also get offers from two companies. The highest package goes around 40lpa and the average is around 8lpa.Branches like cse have a higher avg package while braches like metallurgy and biotechnology have lower avg package. Avg placement percentage is around 75-80%.I plan to appear for GATE and IES after getting the degree. I will also try for placements.
College Events
The annual technical fest of NIT Durgapur is Aarohan, jointly conducted by five clubs every year in the month of april. The library has a great collection of books. The availability is also good. Since the college is not open due to Covid 19 since 2020, I am not in a position comment anything on the sports extracurricular activities held on campus.
Fees and Financial Aid
Per semester tution fee is about INR 70000.For sc st students and those who have annual family income below 1 lakh, tution fee is completely waived. For students who have annual family income below 5 lakh, 2/3rd tution is waived. Except fee waiver, no other financial assistance is given. There is not much scope for campus jobs either.
Campus Life
I have visited the college twice. The college has a huge campus. There are two grounds. There is library, gymnasium, auditorium, everything is there. The library is also huhe. There is free wifi in the whole college. The labs are also in a very good condition. Some buildings are also being renovated. Overall the campus infrastructure is excellent and one cannot complain about it.
Admission
The candidate only need to qualify JEE main. No other interview or written test is required.
