NITDGP - A college review

NIT Durgapur stands in top 10 NITs of India. It holds a good placement record and internship opportunities. The admission is done through theJOSAA counselling, held after JEE ADVANCED examination, in which choice filling is done and then documents are verified as soon as a college of choice has been allotted.

The course for Chemical Engineering varies from medium to tough level. Thermodynamics forms a major part of the syllabus. he faculty-student ratio is 16:420. In the third semester, there are 11 professors for 80 students, including dual-degree students. The faculty holds high qualifications and have attained research degree in different fields, with 6 professors and 5 assistant professors. There are three exams held in a semester - Continuous assessments 1 and 2 (CA1 and CA2) and end semester examinations. CA1 holds 15 marks, CA2 25 marks and the end semester is 60 marks. Questions are of medium to tough level with one or two easy ones, and in some subjects, viva - voce is taken but are easy to pass. Notes for the respective subjects are provided by the professors.

There are a lot of companies like Microsoft, Capgemini, TATA Steel, NITI ayog, and others that offer internships through the summer-winter internship programs. Besides, students can avail internships through external sites also like Internshala and LinkedIn.

From the seventh semester, students become eligible for placements. TCS, Infosys, Capgemini, Google India, and many other companies, a total of 116 approximately as per last year, visit the college, and about 460 students were offered placements. About 82% of students got placed last year. After my graduation, I'd opt for either IT sector jobs or go for higher studies.

Owing to online classes, I've not experienced campus life. The college provides e-resource for college students. The professor provides the best materials and teach us through the virtual classrooms on MS Teams or Google meet. The seniors are cooperative and provide insights into college life. On-campus, there are various spots to see like Duck point, Nescafe Point, SAC, and other buildings. There are various clubs and societies with very much exciting and cooperative communities of students like CCA, SAE, GNU/LINUX, MNTC, LC, etc.

The fees structure is nominal for students with varied structures as per their family income. Girl students can avail scholarships through govt schemes and the college provides few scholarship schemes through certain criteria. Students are eligible for placements from the seventh semester and on-campus internships from 5 semester. For outside college, students can get internships as per their choice from the first semester only. The highest package offered last year was 44 LPA CTC.

Sports facilities are available. SAC (Student activity center) is there for Gym and most of the halls have volleyball courts. Inter NIT sports facility is also available. 2 grounds ( Lords and Oval) are there. Recently, the library in NITDGP was centralized.

The hostel fee is Rs. 48000 per year. Since we are doing online classes, I've not lived in hostel. But from the seniors I got to know that hostel life is good. There are options for both veg and non veg food. Wifi is slow sometimes.The quality of veg food is better than the nonveg food.

No, I didn't give any GD round. I gave the JEE MAINS examination and JOSAA counselling. For B.tech Chemical Engineering in NIT Durgapur, the cut-off rank was 11341 and marks> 96 percentile. The admission process was smooth and easy. The JOSAA counseling was done online with an admission form submission, fee payment, and filling in other details in the form.
