Honest review on NIT DURGAPUR

On the basis of my JEE MAINS rank, I had got ECE branch in NIT DGP. Actually, I want to join cse branch, but for a very small margin of rank, I have missed it. Later I got to know that our department is one of the best in the college. Here in our department most of the Professors are very good at their domain of interest in the field of electronics and very helpful to students. Few are a little bit strict. Almost all of them are Ph.D. holders from renowned institutions like IIT KGP, JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY, NIT DGP, IIEST SHIBPUR, NITR, etc. We have a total of 21 faculty members. Faculty to student(total 99 students)ratio is near about 4-5:1. Here 3 exams are held in a semester ca1(15 marks), midterm(25 marks) and end term(60 marks). The difficulty level of the exam is nearly moderate, not very much difficult. For me, some of the best teachers are RD Mam, Aritro Dey sir, SKM sir, and AKB sir. My favourite subjects are control systems, digital logic designing, microprocessors and microcontrollers, etc.

NIT DURGAPUR provides the opportunity for students to sit in the on-campus internship. Generally, students are eligible to sit in an on-campus internship drive from the start of the 5th semester if they have no active backlog. Big companies like -Microsoft, JPMC, Wells Fargo, salesforce, cisco, Texas Instruments, PWC, and Public sapients, visit NIT DGP for summer internships. On average 130-150 students get selected for internship offers.

From the 7th semester, students become eligible for campus placement. Here placements are quite good. Almost all big MNCs and good product-based companies like -Microsoft, Texas Instruments, Amazon, Wells Fargo, JPMC, Oracle, Media.Net, Mathworks, Qualcomm, etc. visit for campus hiring. Most 90-95 per cent of students from circuital branches generally get placed every year. For core branches also placement is good. This year the highest package goes to 70 lpa. and the average package is 13.62 lpa and the total percentage of placement is 84.66 percent. The average packages of CSE, ECE, and EE are 21.45 lpa, 17.49 lpa, and 14.61 lpa.

Fess hikes are not that much. First semester fees are 113,110/-, and from 2nd sem to 8 sem fees are 82,800/-. These fees are only for BTECH courses. And here also fee relaxation is possible. Here fee structure policy is like other NITs, i.e.- if family income is less than 1 lac then no need to pay tuition fees (tuition fees are 62,500 per sem). If family income is between 1 lac to 5 lac then the student needs to pay one-third of tuition fees and if family income is greater than 5lpa annum then the student needs to pay full tuition fees. Here the above policy is only for tuition fees, all other fees should be paid by students. Students get sufficient time to pay the fees. After crossing the deadline, college authorities do not charge heavy penalties, but this year they started a penalty of 20/- per day basis if a student fails to pay in the given time. Here different state-government and national scholarships are also available. I applied for the SVMCM scholarship (state govt) and it was granted.

Here in NIT DGP, 3 fests are organized in a year. They are the annual cultural fest - RECSTASY, the techno-management fest-AROHAN which is the second largest techno-management fest all over EAST-INDIA, and a new food fest introduced in 2022 named RECRAVE. AROHAN is generally held in February -March month, It is a 4-day fest, and various technological discussions, competitions, and seminars are organized by different clubs like- CCA, RECURSION, MNTC, GLUG of NITDGP. This year VIJENDRA CHAUHAN, ARSH GOYAL like dignitaries came. RECTASY is a 3-day fest, generally held in the month of March- April. Various cultural programs are organized by the cultural clubs of NIT DGP. On the first day the famous band of Kolkata PRITHIBI, the famous singer VISHAL MISHRA came in RECS. RECRAVE is generally held in November. Here central library is present which contains 1 lac books with various journal papers. Books are well available. Classrooms (NAB) are well furnished with facilities ACs and microphones.

In NIT DGP total of 14 hostels are there -10 hostels are for boys 4 hostels are for girls. Here hostels are safe. 1st years boys are generally given hall-11. Among all the halls the HALL-14 and Hall-11 are of premium qualities. Generally, students get a shared room with 3 roommates. Halls have good Wi-Fi connections but sometimes connection issues occur, but generally recover in a few hours. The bathrooms are well maintained. At the time of admission, the hostels are allotted to students to stay. Only at that time, do students need to do registration for halls. Beginning of every Odd semester different halls are allotted to students. NIT DGP is a fully residential institute so hostel registration is mandatory for all the students. As of now, the mess charge is 19000/- per semester. Mess Meal is good for non-vegetarians, but for vegetarians meals are okayish.

To enter any course in NITs, one needs to go through an all-INDIA basic NATIONAL LEVEL EXAM named JEE MAINS(joint entrance examination). JEE MAINS conducts two times a year in JANUARY and APRIL month. In our time in 2021, it was conducted 4 times for the coronavirus outbreak. For appearing in JEE mains one should get more than 75 per cent in their respective 12th board exam or equivalent from since stream with physics, chemistry, and math compulsory. but our time this criteria of 75% has been relaxed due to the coronavirus outbreak. One more criterion is that one can appear 3 times in JEE MAINS, with the 12th board, and up to 2 years after that. I have applied for all four sessions of JEE MAINS 2021. At that time per session exam fees were 650 rupees for male candidates, but now in 2023, it has increased to 1000/-. If anyone belonging to any category means obc, SC, or st then they can avail of reservation benefits, as I am from the general category no such reservation is there for me.
