Course Curriculum Overview
Electronics and Communication Engineering in NIT Durgapur is a very reputed and well respected branch with over 85% placements in 2023 and a good plethora of faculty and alumni across the board. There are detailed lab sessions and theory classes which cover almost all concepts to be taught.
Internships Opportunities
There are a lot of companies which come to NIT Durgapur for picking interns, apart from the regular full timers. Although most of these companies offer the job location in PAN India. Apart from these, our college authority sends 4 students (from any department) to CERN, Geneva for their 2 month summer internship.
Placement Experience
Excellent for CSE, Good for ECE and average for most of the other branches and poor for Civil and Biotech. The institute has shown tremendous growth and performance in CSE placements in last few years which is visible from the stats below also the institute has done pretty well for ECE too this year. But for other branches the stats are not that promising. For Civil and Biotech the average and percentage both are low. Plus avoid MSc courses if possible if you are looking for placement as no student got placed in those.
Fees and Financial Aid
per semester(six months) fees is 90,000 inr without any subsidy. with subsidy it becomes 35k for general students and 14k for sc/st students. you can apply for vivekanada scholarship if you studied in a wbchse board higher secondary school which will provide you with 15k per semester.
Campus Life
Coming to the non academic part. There is nothing to be afraid of ragging. You will be allotted Hall 11 in your first year which is far away from the senior hostels. But trust me, seniors are probably the best thing to happen to you over here. Try to keep contact with them and maintain good relations as they can help you a lot in the long run.
Hostel Facilities
As far as food is concerned you are eventually going to get bored with the daily routine of the mess food. And of course there are plenty of alternatives- The Hall 5 Cafeteria, restaurants near the north gate and jhoops(opposite to the main gate). And of course there are plenty of restaurants and the Junction Mall outside the campus at a walking distance where you can enjoy your day outs. And if you are a party loving person you are going to enjoy plenty of them from birthday party of friends to job treats of seniors
Admission
You have to apply for joint Entrance Examinations and secure a rank to be eligible for the course based on your rank and cutoffs that year. Reserved candidates get a benefit over general category in terms of cutoff. the exams take place twice every year in january and may.
