Course Curriculum Overview

4

From what I found: For example, the ECE (Electronics & Communication Engineering) UG syllabus at NIT Durgapur has a “New” and “Old” version listed. The objectives (Programme Education Objectives, PEOs) indicate that the course is designed not just to teach theory, but also to give experimental/practical problem-solving skills, and to prepare students both for industry roles and for higher studies. They include advanced technical topics and electives (signal processing, VLSI, wireless communications etc) along with basic sciences and mathematics. That means students in ECE get exposure to both fundamentals and also specialisation areas. The PG programmes (e.g. M.Tech in Next Generation Communication & Networks) have a clear assessment pattern (Continuous Assessment + Mid-Term + End-Term), which suggests careful structure. In particular, this PG course has CA1 (quizzes, assignments), CA2 (mid-term) and a big end-term exam that covers full syllabus.

Internships Opportunities

5

Internship Opportunities: Companies, Roles & Projects From the ECE / Microelectronics & VLSI Department This is one of the stronger departments with good internship/placement stats. From their page: Students in the M.Tech (Microelectronics & VLSI) programme get internships from big semiconductor / hardware / design companies such as Intel, Qualcomm, ST Microelectronics, NXP, AMD, Synopsys, Cadence, Samsung, IBM, etc. Example: For the 2018-2020 batch of 16 students, among internships: HCL-Sankalp (4), NXP Semiconductor (4), Intel (3), ST Microelectronics (2) etc. For 2019-2021 batch: Intel (4 internships), NXP (7), ST Microelectronics etc.

Placement Experience

4

Strengths & Weaknesses in Placement Strengths Good number of companies participate; wide variety (IT & non-IT). Strong average & top packages in popular branches (CSE, ECE, EE). Reasonable placement rate ~80-85% for many branches. Challenges / Weaknesses For less in-demand / non-IT / non-core branches, average packages are lower. (E.g. Civil, Mechanical have much lower averages in recent drives) Also, in some years (like 2024), placement rate dipped (to ~72%) perhaps due to wider economic trends. Students who have backlogs, weak intern/project experience, or who are not proactive often struggle or get fewer offers.

Fees and Financial Aid

Total Fee for Full Course (UG, B.Tech) For B.Tech (4-year) course, total fees (all semesters) are ? ? 6.48 lakhs for most engineering specialisations. In 2024-25, this full course fee was less (? ? 6.02 lakhs) for B.Tech, so there is an increase. --- Changes / Increases The total B.Tech fees have increased from ? ? 6.02 lakhs in 2024-25 to ? ? 6.48 lakhs in 2025-26. Semester tuition for B.Tech/UG remains ? 62,500, but other semester/first semester ancillary/one-time fees (admission, caution money etc.) also make first semester significantly higher.

Campus Life

Festivals, Fests & Clubs Major Fests & Timing Aarohan — The Annual Techno-Management Fest. Organized by five clubs (Centre for Cognitive Activities + others). It is one of the largest techno-management fests in eastern India. Aavishkar — A tech fest. It has been held for multiple editions; e.g. 01-04 November 2018 for one of its editions. Recstacy — The Annual Cultural Fest. This is also known as NITyamini in more recent times (or was Recstacy previously) for the cultural extravaganza. Literary / Youth Festival – Verve — Conducted by the Literary Circle. Youth & literary expressions. PANORAMA — A week-long fest by ISTE (student chapter) usually around end June / early July.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel Facilities: What Rooms & Amenities Are Like From multiple student reviews + infrastructure reports: Most hostel rooms are triple-sharing (three students per room), especially for first-year / fresher hostels. Later years sometimes get double or single rooms if available. In each room, typically you’ll get: 3 beds, mattress & bed frame. 3 study tables & chairs. 3 almirahs / cupboards. Lighting: Tube lights / lamps / night bulbs per student, fluorescent or LED lights common. Fans or ceiling fans are present. Some rooms have windows for ventilation. Basic power outlets, some network / LAN / WiFi connectivity. Common rooms in each hostel with indoor games (Table Tennis, Carrom etc.), TV in many halls. Other amenities: Clean water supply (RO / filtered) and regular electric supply in most hostels. Laundry / washing services (some paid / outsourced). Security: CCTV, wardens, gate / hostel monitoring. Recreational infrastructure: sports courts close by; mess halls for each hostel. --- Meal (Mess) Quality & Menu What students report: Meals are served three times daily: breakfast, lunch, dinner. There are both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Non-veg-items like egg, chicken, fish are offered multiple times a week: e.g. twice a week for chicken, fish 2-3 times. Sometimes special dinners, biryani, fried rice etc occur weekly. Breakfast menus have variety: items like uttapam, pav bhaji, poha, chowmein or maggie occasionally. Quality & complaints: Many students say the food is “decent to good” but variable: sometimes quality drops, taste/flavour issues (too much spice, repetition, overuse of potatoes etc.). Hygiene is generally acceptable, but mess hygiene or management gets complaints. Some halls; some days are better than others. --- Hostel Registration / Allotment & Affordability Here’s how the process works plus costs: Registration / Allotment: 1. After you get admission (for UG Dual Degree etc.), there is a hos

Admission

Admission Process at NIT Durgapur Here are the formal steps, exams, eligibility, cutoffs etc. Level Course / Program Eligibility / Minimum Criteria Entrance Exam(s) Accepted / Used Seat Intakes & Allocation UG (B.Tech / Dual Degree etc.) B.Tech & B.Tech-M.Tech dual degree etc. Class 12 (10+2) with PCM subjects; usually a minimum board percentage is required (often ~75% for General, slightly lower for reserved categories). JEE Main score is the primary criteria. Seats are allocated via JoSAA / CSAB counselling. There's Home State and Other State quotas; also reservations (OBC, SC, ST, EWS, PwD etc.). The number of seats for each branch varies. For example UG B.Tech seats ~ 876 for 2025?26. PG (M.Tech, M.Sc etc.) M.Tech, M.Sc, MBA etc. For M.Tech: Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech or equivalent) in relevant discipline, with minimum marks (often 60% for General/OBC/EWS, relaxations for SC/ST). For M.Sc: B.Sc in relevant field with minimum % (say ~55-60%) depending on category. M.Tech admissions via GATE + CCMT counselling. M.Sc admissions via IIT JAM + CCMN counselling. MBA possibly via MAT/XAT/etc (as per eligibility). The seat count is less than UG; specialisations have fixed seats. Only those qualifying in respective exams & satisfying eligibility can apply. Cutoff / Counselling After exams results, JoSAA (for UG) ranks are used; counselling rounds allocate seats branch-wise. Cutoffs depend heavily on number of applicants, category, home vs other state etc. --- Cutoffs / How Competitive It Is From recent data (2024-2025), here are some cutoff ranks (General / Outside State vs Home State) for popular branches at NIT Durgapur: Branch (B.Tech) 2025 Closing Rank – Outside State (General) 2025 Closing Rank – Home State (General) Computer Science & Engineering ~ 8596 (OS) ~ 10,493 (HS) Electronics & Communication Engineering ~ 12,334 (OS) ~ 14,676 (HS) Electrical Engg ~ 18,049 (OS) ~ 19,950 (HS) Mechanical Engg ~ 24,706 (OS) ~ 26,998 (HS)

Night Life

4

Hostel / Campus Timings & Restrictions These govern what students can / cannot do at night, especially for first years vs upper years: First-year UG students have stricter restrictions. They typically aren’t allowed to leave the hostel premises except for academic needs during the early semesters. One student comment: > “In-time is 6-7 PM. No going outside hostel premises except for classes.” After the first semester or so, things relax. In later semesters, in-time is reported to be ~ 10 PM. Mess timings (dinner etc) are enforced, so late food outside mess / hostel may be limited. Some messes close after dinner timing. Library closing times: The central library is open till about 9 PM usually, and during exam periods stays open later (~11:30 PM) --- Cafeterias / Mess / Library: Hours of Operation Hall-12 Canteen: opens ~ 8:00 AM till 10:00 PM. So not 24-hour, but decent evening window. Mess (hostel) dinner is typically from ~ 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. After that, messes c

I don't have idea about the placements since I'm in first year now. But I talked to a senior and got to know that many got multiple offers in 4th year. I also head that packages are around 4 lpa which is a decent and also a rise than the previous year.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
