Dislikes

Girls to boys ratio is very less especially in branches like civil and mechanical.However, it is improving right now due to 10% reservation for girls in IITs. ~ Akaash R, B.Tech

Natural Scenary, Trees, Hostel Zone, Animals, Old NAC, Taramani gate, new sports complex, cricket ground
Hostels, College, Himalaya lawns and food court, new NAC, LIBRARY, Swimming pool, football ground
Eco friendly usage of cycles, IITM Reseach park, Mandakini hostel, Gym, tennis court, badmintion court, SAC

Dislikes

Few old hostel needs to be renovated which should be done properly
Renovation of Mechanical department which is not renovated from long time
New innovative building need to be built, new cafeteria needed for chilling

Placement Experience:

Students involved in B. Tech programme can sit for the placments in their 4th year, while students pursuing dual degree(DD) have to sit in their final yea i.e 5th year. Highest package crosses 2 cr abd average package around 15 lakhs per annum. Many large companies and big firms come for recruiting from campus placements. Software and Quant profiles generally provide highest package folllowed by Data Scientist, developers and core braches. Around 70-80 percent of the students get placed who sit for the placements. You can also pursue higher studies by not sitting in placements.

IITM in nutshell

Likes

I like the surrounding the most campus is beautiful
Faculty members are also good and supportive
Student community is helping and creative

Dislikes

Food over is not good for North Indians so they need to find some alternative
Sometimes things are delaying and academics didn't responds well

Course Curriculum Overview:

Curriculum was quite good but it depends more on professor , some of the courses need to be modify according to current time and suggest some real life usage of perticular courses , and mainly I likes project part give it more credit

IIT Madras review

Likes

The resources provided by the institute and the helping community by the students
The feasibility of the classes. Such as the attendance policy is 75%, so anyone can try out something they are interested in
The campus itself. There is so much to explore in the campus as it was previously a forest and there are a large number of deera and monkeys and many other wildlifes here

Dislikes

I don't like the fact that professors take the 10 minutes break between two classes and the classes happen in different buildings which we need to cover by our bicycles
I don't like the 8 am classes as it's like very hard to wake up and get ready for classes and sometimes I don't even get to have breakfast 😅
I don't like the fact that the marking here is done on a relative grading type rather than absolute grading type which I've been through my whole life

Placement Experience:

There will be placement drive happening for the 4rth year students here. It is conducted to educate the students regarding the process of registration and preperation for the placements. During placements the companies arrive on day 1-3 and the registered candidates who got shortlisted for the co pines tests can go through the interview round. The highest packages are around 1-2 cr and the average packages are around 15-20 lpa

BS at IITM Worth it??

Likes

Curriculum is too good, they are teaching all the things which are really important
College clubs are very friendly and all the people motivates you so much to try all the things possible
Being an IITian is really a big thing, we get lot of respect by just showing our id card which gives a lot of impression

Dislikes

As this course is inline we dont usually get much chance to visit the campus
They are very strict with assignments and all that stuff

Course Curriculum Overview:

Personally i feel this is the great initiative taked by IIT-M to introduce this course as it teaches much practical knowledge and teaches only relevant things which is necessary for getting great jobs, And the curriculum is highly advanced such that it is way ahed of other degrees. The advantage is right from week 1 concepts are soo basic anyone can learn from zero and it gets interesting week by week such that you won't even realize how far you've come They ask us to dedicate 10 hors per week for one course to get good enough marks for exams. Overall the course is very good i recommend that you should definitely go for it. My suggestion to the IIT-M faculty is to keep those lectures more interesting, cause sometimes it gets so boring

An IITian experience

Likes

The campus infrastructure is just amazing
The campus environment is too good and very safe to roam in the campus
The seniors are very helpful and supports us in any situation

Dislikes

The grading system is very tough and students can't score easily
Holidays are not issued even during important occasions sometimes
ragging is done in hostel to the juniors by the seniors but in a jovial way

Placement Experience:

As everyone knows generally IIT's have an excellent placement. As a tier one IIT , IIT MADRAS provides highest percentage of placements for it's students in their third year itself. The average package ranges form 30 lakhs to 35 lakhs per annum to CSE students and the highest packages goes around 3 to 4 crores per annum.

My campus life

Likes

I loved the nature arounde me and the facilities are very excellent.The faculty are very nice .
The placement industry provides a better life and better experience.The campus is very peaceful and no worries.
The course is only provided by two campuses IIT MADRAS and IIT KHARAGPUR.Only few people will do this course and I am going towards my passion.

Dislikes

Things I disliked is some times the net flacuvuates and cause me irritation.
Some areas are restricted and I want to visit them.

Placement Experience:

From 5th semester students are eligible for the placements.Different companies will come into the campus and placement will be done for 2 weeks.There are so many companies which visited our campus like Google, Amazon , Wipro,Tata companies etc.The highest package for last year is 3.67 crore per annum.90% of students are placed and some are doing mtech.I will join the Indian Navy after my degree.

My experience as a fresher of IIT

Likes

After completion of this course you will become alumni of IIT Madras which is not easy to become.
Fee is reasonable if you are having financail aid.
A good exposure of students throughout the country.

Dislikes

The main con is ,this course is online which makes me to miss college life.
Exams to be writen every month and the centres are bit far in metro cities
Lectures give by faculty are bit boring and some are very lengthy too.

Placement Experience:

Placement cell for this course is good because data science is the booming course right now. Since this course has been launched recently ( Around 5 years), average package is around 6 lakhs. MNC's like google, netflix etc provide placements here.

Everything I experienced from this course

Likes

Paradox fest conducted here makes me more exciting about this course.
The clubs like corbett house here is very exciting and the students are very cooperative.
The faculty here are well trained. They have high experience.

Dislikes

The major con is this is online completely which makes me to miss offline culture.
The loction given for quizzes and semester are bit far in metro cities.
The lectures given are too boring some of them last for an hour too.

Placement Experience:

Since this course is launched recelty like around 5 years the placements are mild. But as this course is guven by iit one can expect a good placement areound 7 lakhs right now and it may increase in future. Internships are also provided.

Likes

Well structured infrastructure well maintained.
All the classrooms are provided with the technical assistance.
Offers very nice placements and campus life is also good.

Dislikes

Teachers are very strict and rude not good for students.
Very strictness in the campus hostel very strict.
Dont get enough support from the teachers.

Course Curriculum Overview:

As i was interested in the technology so i choose this course. The curriculum prepares you for the 80 percent of the real world practices. Exams are held with in every 6 months. The practicals must be increased as compared to theory classes

Campus greenary, deer, monkey this campus is very fascinating, if you visit IIT Madras you will definitely fall in love with nature.

Dislikes

Hot summer, only bad thing about chennai is hot summer. Every time sweat and hot

Placement Experience:

Campus placement is average many big company come for interview. Each year 70%+ students get the placement and their dream job. My plan after getting degrees to do job in software company for initial face and post that some business.

The online Data Science program at IIT Madras is a great opportunity for someone who can not attend regular college because of financial constraints, illness, or other reasons. The online BS in Data Science and Application allows students to gain knowledge of this field from one of the most reputed engineering colleges in India.

The online lectures are taught by experienced faculty members from IITM. What I found most interesting was the professors' distinct approach to teaching. The students are routinely assisted by committed and supportive staff.

It is a full-time degree or diploma and so it will have more value than online. But if we compare IIT Madras’ online degree or diploma with any other college’s then it is better.

The duration of the course is 3 years. The mode of training is online, the lectures are mostly recorded and partly live sessions.

Whether the course will be good or not that depends on what subject you are planning to pursue. If you opt for a subject related to technology, then it is not a good option. This is because technology cannot be learned through books or audiovisual. It requires you to be present in the field to gain experience and knowledge.
