Dislikes

Girls to boys ratio is very less especially in branches like civil and mechanical.However, it is improving right now due to 10% reservation for girls in IITs. ~ Akaash R, B.Tech

Mess food- The food in the mess will not be soo good but it is edible

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum in IIT madras is not too complicated, every branch here is unique and are mostly irrelevant to other. I personally chose civil engineering because I was very intrested in construction of things.

MY JOURNEY IN IIT MADRAS

The thing I liked most is the environment in the campus, campus is full of trees and animals, it gives very natural feel, as it is very greenery i like the environment of my campus
Another thing i like is the festivals In our campus . We have saarang as our cultural festival in which they organize many events .Another festival is Shastra which is Technical festival where many students present their project model
Another thing i liked in my campus is the supportive bodies in the administration block . Like they give importance to the students rather than their performance in the exams . If students face any problem we can go to the faculty advisor and ask hel

Another thing is some irrelevant courses in my academics , there are just theory based courses which has no use in further life.
Another thing i didn't like is politics which affects more during the selections of any sports team , like the who is selector selects the people whom they know rather than who is capable.

Placement Experience:

Placements in our college are quite good . Students can apply according to their choices and interest in job profiles . People can apply at the end of 3rd year means by the end of 6th semester. Placement team works on these Placement session. Many popular and high rated companies visit in our college like Google , Microsoft, jaguar, tata, and many more companies come to our campus. Highest package in last ywar was 1.2 Cr something for the software job Average for mechanical engineering is 12.1 LPA So according to average salary placements are good . Around 85 % from mechanical engineering got placement last year which is a good percentage If I'll get good placement then I'll go with the job and if it'll be not as i expected then I'll prepare for CAT for the MBA course or I'll prepare for the UPSC .

My journey in IIT Madras.

Likes

Campus environment is pretty good as it is situated in a national park. We have deers and a lot of wildlife.
We have a lot of facilities for entertainment inside our campus at low cost like restaurants and even movie screenings.
We have pretty good learning opportunities in campus to gain practical and theoretical knowledge.

Dislikes

Monkeys stealing our food all the time. Restaurants and cafes need to be protected from monkeys.
Hygiene of our hostels should be better.
Mess food could be better. They need more variety and need to be better in taste.

Placement Experience:

Campus placements are done in 3rd year. Campus placements are very good here. It is NIRF 1 so yeah there are a lot of companies coming and many options here. All companies from all fields come here and recruit. The package is also high. Tower research, bane, jp morgon etc companies have come and recruited people. Average mechanical engineering students get placed at around ?12 lakh per annum. Regarding placements and internships boys are not given any preference at all. There have been cases where companies took 7 people out of which 6 were girls and 1 guy. This seems pretty unfair to me. After passing out from IIT, I plan to go a good IIM college and get an MBA degree.

Student activities centre which is called sac
There is also nac which is quite interesting
Naval architecture and Ocean engineering department

Dislikes

Monkey and insects in the institution over here
Relative grading and absolute grading here
People surrounded in the Campus is quite interesting

The course curriculum was little bit hard ....it prepares me for the real world applications Asking the doubts with your respective professors helps u a lot The exams paper level is medium and students felt so difficult

Pros and cons of iitm life

The environment.there is so much greenary in our college
The library and laboratory facilities available for the students
Seniors and juniors interactions ,and friends

Dislikes

Monkeys are creating great trouble to us they are creating problems for us
The relative grading system in our college is creating stress
The tight exam and laboratory schedule in the first year

The course mainly considers the proper materials and development in their durability time so it influenced me to take this course.the 4 th sem subjects are bit difficult to score good marks and everything is good

Glimpse at IITM

Night life, hostel life, CCD, Ramu tea stall.

Dislikes

Hostel facilities, mess food sometimes, rules of hostel leaving formalities.

Placement Experience:

Completing 6 or 8 semesters are the eligibilities. We can directly apply to the companies. Companies visited are more than 400 and the offers are 900+. High package is more than a Cr. I preferred further studies after the degree.

My experience at IITM

Likes

Center for innovation. This is the place where all the clubs work and research on various technical projects
Shaastra is the technical feat. There are many great workshops and competitions here which are knowledge transfer in some or the other way.

Dislikes

Election process is very problematic. Students face issues here with that

Placement Experience:

Placements are very good. Ofcourse, it is NIRF 1 ranked. The placements are of a very wide range. All fields of companies come here to recruit. The placements process is very well structured. We have a proper method and portal to apply or get a placement. Apart from placements there are many options with research. People can try for a research internship at some good university. Highest package keeps varying everytime. Entrepreneurship is very high according to statistics. Many students from IITM want to become entrepreneurs.

I liked where we are having many clubs like Ibot and CFI where we can do projects and include ourselves which can help in our resumes for internships and placements. I included in some of the hostel run posts named general secretary.
We are having New academic complex and Student activity center.
We are having the largest library having many books of our own intrest.

Dislikes

The things I disliked in the messes were not clean.
Monkeys attacking on students who were carrying food or any other items.
Relative grading , Having quizes and endsems without pretty much gap.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I aimed to join IIT and this influenced me to work hard and finally achieved it. In my campus, students can connect to outer world through alumini and can learn as per their stream irrespective of their stream. We are having 2 quizes and 1 midsem and 1 endsem.

I am so much interested in materials and metallurgical engineering from childhood this curriculum teaches me very well for real world applications no need of improvements in any type of areas there are two quizzes or one mid sem and and one end sem for every course

The IIT Madras BS Data Science and Application program.

Likes

The first thing that I like is the quality of education provided.
The next thing that I like is amount of dedication each instructor puts in each class
And last but not the least, the fests are mind blowing.

Dislikes

There is only one thing that I don't link about the program and that is the program is online.

Placement Experience:

Campus placement facilities in the program are excellent. Though the program is online but the placements provided are really in good companies and successful startups. Infact I am also looking forward to take my first job from the on-campus placements.

The online Data Science program at IIT Madras is a great opportunity for someone who can not attend regular college because of financial constraints, illness, or other reasons. The online BS in Data Science and Application allows students to gain knowledge of this field from one of the most reputed engineering colleges in India.

The online lectures are taught by experienced faculty members from IITM. What I found most interesting was the professors' distinct approach to teaching. The students are routinely assisted by committed and supportive staff.

It is a full-time degree or diploma and so it will have more value than online. But if we compare IIT Madras’ online degree or diploma with any other college’s then it is better.

The duration of the course is 3 years. The mode of training is online, the lectures are mostly recorded and partly live sessions.

Whether the course will be good or not that depends on what subject you are planning to pursue. If you opt for a subject related to technology, then it is not a good option. This is because technology cannot be learned through books or audiovisual. It requires you to be present in the field to gain experience and knowledge.
