Remarks
NIT Durgapur is a national institute and ranks among the top engineering colleges in the country. There's also the tag of being a NITian, which bears immense respect. The college is also well connected with all means of transportation being available. These reasons added to me preferring this college. The admission process for 2020 was carried out online, which was helpful due to the pandemic. This process is based on the JEE Main rank secured, and the seats are allotted through multiple rounds in JoSAA Counselling and CSAB Special Round. A candidate needs to lock their seat after they get their desired branch. After registration on the college website, we were granted a bonafide certificate. Collegedunia.com was one of the websites I had used while selecting this college.
Course Curriculum Overview
Civil Engineering is a branch in which I was interested, and NIT Durgapur was one of the top institutions to explore it. In the branch, the faculty to student ratio is about 1:5. The standard of learning is pretty good, and the curriculum is according to the latest trends. The faculties are the strength of this branch. They are from diverse fields and are highly qualified. There are three exams conducted in a semester. A student can pass with good numbers if one attends the classes and pays attention.
Placement Experience
The placements and job opportunities in NIT Durgapur are like the other top NITs. There is a placement cell in the college that facilitates this process. The core branches have a low percentage of placement. The major companies which recruit students from Civil Engineering are L&T, Infosys, TCS, TCE and Wipro. The placement percentage for Civil Engineering is about 40%. Students can sit for job opportunities from the 6th or 7th semester. The overall placement percentage is about 75% in the college, and the highest package is around 43 LPA. I might go for higher studies after B.Tech.
College Events
The campus life at NIT Durgapur is one to remember. The annual cultural fest is Recstasy and the annual tech fest is Aarohan. Aarohan was conducted in the first week of April in 2021. A library with a collection of lakhs of books and other documents is situated in the campus. These are also being digitalized for remote access. The classrooms in the college have good seating and are comfortable. There is a commendable research ambience present. There is a Sports and Activity Center in the college. It is compulsory for the first year UG students to take part in co-curricular activities and this carries one credit point each in the two semesters in the first year. The hostel rooms are not too good but fine. The food here is satisfactory. There are many clubs in the college like Literary Circle, Strokes, QuizInc, SPIC MACAY, GNU/LINUX Users' Group, Recursion coding club, Entrepreneurship Development Club (EDC), Debating Society, and many more.
Campus Life
As the college was established in 1960, some of the infrastructure even after various developments is slightly old. But, the developments keep happening at a good pace. The sports facilities are also great. There are some large grounds inside the campus. The library has lakhs of books and is also being digitalized. The laboratories have modern facilities and all necessary types of equipment.
Admission
No. For B.Tech admissions, there are no group discussions, interviews or written tests after the JEE Main exam which has both subjective and objective questions.
