To Enter the Field of the Merchant Navy as an Engineer, you will need to Complete B.TECH in MARINE ENGINEERING which is a 4-year course that consists of both theories as well as practical classes on the ships. I was always fond of the sea and Ships, that's why I chose this course The teachers are here former Marine Engineers of the rank Chief Engineers. The Exams are Semester wise.

From the 4th semester onwards cadets are eligible for campus placement. Top companies are Chevron, NYK shipping, Anglo eastern Shipping Management, Fleet management private limited, Mediterranean Shipping company, Scorpio tankers, Torm tankers, shell, etc. Almost 60-70% from campus rest will either get off-campus or through reference. My plan is simple I will try to get placed in a good shipping company and will do sailing.

From 3rd year you are eligible for campus placement. Fleet management, NYK ship management, chevron shipping Ltd, many more with an average salary of 6to 9lakh let Annum. Around 80% of students get placed in the college. I want to join a shipping company as a third engineer and want to become a chief engineer.

Admission happened through IMU CET and the whole process is pretty simple.Budget friendly college for marine engineering.Its a government college.Second to only tolani institute pune.Scholarships are available for top 50 ranks.Faculty and infrastructure is not top class but can manage.Placements are good only if you are good academically.Mess food is average and most rely on delivery service.New hostel buildings are coming up hence it will be much better for new comers cause old ones are in a mess.Labs are average with simulator lab standing out.

Campus Placement is good comparing it with other colleges of the same field or other government engineering colleges as well. More than 70% of placement generally happens through in-campus placement. The rest of the cadets can apply from outside the campus. Many Shipping company's offices are situated in Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, etc. Students start getting placement offers from the 5th semester, which is quite good. But most of the cadets get placed in the final year itself. The only criteria to apply for a company is that you have to be all-clear i.e have passed all the papers. NYK Lines, MSC, SCI, Anglo-Eastern, Great Eastern, Fleet Management, Scorpio Management, ChellShip are some of the companies that regularly offer placement for the cadets. Highest package was offered by Scorpio Management that is 75thousand per month in the training period. Average salary is around 35Thousand per month. Personally, I sailed for 7 months and didn't like the work profile so I am switching to some other field.

The college provides for campus placement and one can sit for the placement two times and if not provided with a seat one has to visit companies outside the campus on their own. Almost 60-75% are placed among the batch. Cadets are allowed to sit in campus placement only if one doesn't have any arrears in previous semesters. The placement scenario has changed a lot.

This college is one of the oldest Marine College in India ( set up in 1949 ). It is a central government college so the cumulative fees is comparatively lesser than other private colleges. The alumni network is quite strong because its the first ever marine college in INDIA. It has one of the biggest workshop in Asia. It has simulator Laboratories, Library, 5 mechanical and electrical labs It has four different Hostels for different batches of the college. A full wifi - Campus, a dispensary, Computer labs, an auditorium. Moreover, the campus is very close to urban area which in turn can help the cadets get what they want without wandering unnecessarily. Also, College promotes co - curricular activities and hosts fests each year namely : Tempest and Lit - o - sphere. The college has got very good figures in term of placement records. Almost 50 - 60 % cadets are more or less placed at the end of 7th semester.

Placements are good 60% upto7th semester. Companies like Anglo-Eastern, MSC, CHEVRON, FLEET MANAGEMENT, SCORPIO etc.visit the campus

I wanted to be in merchant navy since class 10th. This college offered best academics for my career. A seminar motivated me to join this field when was in class 10. Also I read about college online and heard some really good things. Campus placement of my campus is better than any of the college in India which offer same course. My college also have sports and culture activities along with acedamics.

Because this college is best for marine engineering and it has huge reputation in merchant navy. It is also known as by its name that is DMET(directorate of marine engineering). It was also known as MERI which stands for Marine engineering and research institute. It was inaugurated by late prime minister pandit jawaharlal Nehru in 1948. It is a central government university. Its main centre is IMU CHENNAI .
