Placement Experience:
Nearly 100% of students are placed, with an average placement of 15 LPA. 40-50 students getting more than one crore in placements. PPO placements are also really popular here. Big companies like Land Rover, General Electric, Google, and Microsoft offer placements.

Placements generally start after our seventh semester and continue for another semester. Roughly seventy percent of our seniors got placed. Preparation for placements is encouraged and supported. Most students opt for jobs.

The placements are very good. Our department had a 100 percent placement rate. All the top companies will be offered. They first take you based on cpi and conduct a test and finally take an interview to select you.

after the sixth-semester students are eligible for campus placements. James Street, quant is most the top companies that came for placement and each gave you different offers. The highest package is around four crores which is a software company and the average package is around twenty lakhs .seventy to eighty percentage students got placement. I want to work with a software company after getting the degree

Students from the second year can apply for internships and students start getting placed in the third year. Top recruiters are Amazon, Apple, Axis Bank, EXL, Google, ICICI Bank, Intel, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Sterlite, Vmock, and Zomato.
In 2022, a student was placed at Jane street with a package of 4.2 Cr.
Almost all the students who apply at placement cells get placed in good companies.
My plan after getting a Civil Engineering B.Tech degree is to go for Indian Engineering Services.

Students become eligible for placements in their 7th semester. In Electrical Department almost 90 percent of students get placed as many people go abroad for pursuing a master's. The highest package offered this year was 4cr by Jane Street Capital.

For internships, it's 3rd semester but sometimes you also get offers via mail. I earned 5k in just 6 days from my internship during 2nd semester. Major companies like Optimer, Microsoft, Jaguar, Intel, IBM, Samsung, Boeing, etc. visit here.
More than 95% of students get placed who opt for placements. Those who want to pursue research also benefit from the alumni network.

After 4th semester you will get an internship and after 7th semester you will seat for placement. The average package is around 19 lakh per annum. The highest package is around 2 crore. Around 90% of students placed and remaining opt for higher studies. I should take the placement.

What is your review of the earth sciences department at IIT Kanpur?

The Earth Sciences is a Department imparting education related to the study of Earth and its geological reliefs. The best part about this Department is that every course here overlaps with some or the other course of other departments making it a multifaceted one.
Earth Sciences curriculum overlaps with many courses in Material Science and Physics, Civil and Chemical, and even Electrical and CSE. This provides diversity in the overall learning experience of the course making it very interesting.
The only major issue is that due to common courses, the curriculum is vague and has no well-defined structure and content. We hope that this flaw is taken care of in the near future.
The program provides versatile job prospects even in the field of Satellite Remote Sensing, weather prediction, and geothermal power plants.

Is IIT Guwahati becoming the next IIT Kanpur?

Both IIT Guwahati and IIT Kanpur are well-respected institutions, known for their high-quality education and research. Comparing the two is already justified and saying that one institution is becoming the next of the other is more so. Both institutions have their strengths and areas of expertise. Yet, if I was to choose one I would have always gone for IIT Kanpur.
Some points that favor my preference are as follows:
- The quality of coursework at IIT Kanpur is extremely challenging and will keep you on your toes always. It offers the best quality of education and you will learn much more than other IITs if you are regular to classes and take your academics seriously,
- The usual schedule of a student at IIT Kanpur is not always jammed, unlike the general opinion. The timings of the clubs align with the classes and you can take out time for both if you are good at managing your time well.
- Another challenging aspect of IIT Kanpur is its tough grading system, (10,8,6,4..) under which anything below 10 is 8. Thus you are under tremendous pressure to maintain your CGPA and is enough of a motivating factor.
Overall, even if Guwahati was to be compared to IIT Kanpur, it still has a long way to go until it becomes the next IIT Kanpur.
