Political Science at Sri Venkateswara College

Likes

The campus is very pretty and very clean and hygienic
My course in particular is not very rigorous, it has a little academic load but overall it is very easy to manage
There are multiple areas for social interaction like the cafeteria and the canteen and its usually very lively and fun

Dislikes

The administrative system is a bit slow and has significant delays
There are a few faculty related concerns
Although the infrastructure is really great it is a bit compromised

Placement Experience:

Students generally become eligible by their 4th semester for placements. Theres a placement cell in the college that handles the placements and guides the students through interviews. Companies enter with their conditions regarding the cgpa they require and the skills they require and interview the students and select accordingly.

A boring guy's life in a fun college

Likes

The campus life is good as compared to other colleges, i mean there can be seen regular fests and activities going around in college regularly.
The cleanliness of the college is amazing, the toilets are clean and well sanitized, the water here is clean there are proper dustbins installed all over the college.
The location of my college is also pretty good, it's right in front of both thr metro and bus station and you can also find all thr necessary shops nearby.

Dislikes

The non teaching staff here is toxic and rude
The wifi here needs to be improved, it never works.
Our college doesn't have a full fledged auditorium, it's still under construction atleast that's what I think.

Course Curriculum Overview:

One of the few reasons why i chose this course was the subject combination, my subject combination is economics+ statistics which i can hardly find in any other colleges. In the curriculum there are various case studies that helps us understand the application of the concept in real life. Sometimes i think the teachers rush the course that doesn't clear the concepts so that's where the improvement is needed.

Sri Venkateswara College; is it worth it?

Likes

The professors and teaching faculty of the college are all very good, the curriculum of the course feels comprehensive and useful
The college campus is really nice and the infrastructure is decent
There are a lot of internship/placement opportunities as well as extracurricular activities made available to students

Dislikes

The wifi connectivity is generally very poor and there are 2 or 3 parts of the college where you can barely use a phone or laptop
The administration of the college is very slow, issuing of ID cards and subject allocations take very long
The seats and table in the canteen are not kept very clean as it is open air

Placement Experience:

The placements of SVC are fairly decent. The average package for all courses was around 6 lakhs per annum, and the highest was around 21 lakhs per annum. In the recent session, over 40 companies participated, including EY, Accenture, Deloitte, etc. and offered over 150 offeres, including financial market analyst, associate researcher wealth manager, and business associate. After getting my degree, I plan to work in finance.

Academics , Exposure and Campus life at SVC

Likes

Computer lab facility is there open for all students
society culture is active and amazing events and fests take place

Dislikes

Timetable has long gaps between classes which is inconvenient
Wifi on campus is quite slow and doesnt work most of the time
although there are many books in the library , often the newest versions are limited

Course Curriculum Overview:

The syllabus strongly focuses on fundamentals and basics for commerce industry roles and gives a solid base for future studies but it does not have the modern technical touch and relevance to the current job market , particularly practical exposure is lacking and needs to be improved on . Further use of technology and integration of AI tools and how,when to use them should be taught and the frequency of exams is fine but the time span should be spread out over the entire semester as all subjects have ther internal tests during the same week

Likes

The fest that the college organises is one of the best in delhi university k/as nexus .
The diversity of college is Pretty good. I've met people from different regions so that just gives you good overall experience.

Dislikes

The college societies do not open up for mid term recruitments . And being in societies should be for learning purposes for people who even are not good at it . They'll learn but that ain't the case .
College has unnecessary Assignments for subjects like EVS other colleges of du also have the same subject but here they expect you to do it like it's a core.
The canteen does not serve non veg and some dishes are just not good the variety in the canteen is too little.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is old and outdated . There has been no integration of modern techniques. The course structure isn't designed in a way of providing employment in modern world . The sec and vac are nothing but a waste of time . They should rather abandon those and let children actually learn what they wish to. This is the problem with the NEP not particularly the college

The societies of the college are very active and engaging.
There is diversity of students in the college which leads to cultural exposure.
The crowd of the college is also quite intellectual, intelligent and ambitious.

Dislikes

Curriculum of the coursework is very traditional and teaching style is also outdated.

Students of the 5th and 6th semester can participate in placement drives. And students earlier than this can participate in the internship drives as well. Highest package last year was around 13 lakhs and average package was around 7 lakhs. I plan on doing an mba after my degree and this year I am planning on sitting for internship.

College life of a Delhite

Likes

The table tennis room is good and has helped me improve.
The crowd is good and i have made good friends here.
The fests of the colleges are amazing. Big stars come to the college during fests and its a great time.

Dislikes

The course curriculum is outdated. Most of the things are theory based and offer no practical experience.
Canteen food is not good. Cleanliness is nof maintained.
Equipments for sports are limited and we have to wait for our turn.

Placement of our college depend on the batch and students. Last year records shows placement of our college to he eighy lakhs per annum. After getting degree I'm thinking of getting a mba college in delhi.

Likes

College gave an open environment to interact with different types of people belonging to different region , religion, differ in intellectual etc . It helped me to learn new things and gain knowledge and experience.
Participating in college societal activity helped me gaining a lot of confidence, self improvement and opportunity to learn and grow
Department faculty are nice and helpful.They are ready to help whenever asked .

Dislikes

Admin of college is not very effective. For even small work have to go around admin office 10 times . They delay work 😔.
The college infrastructure is not so good. The classes which are assigned to my department are in very poor condition.
The political parties in college campus disturb alot during election times .

Course Curriculum Overview:

When I was choosing this course in preference list I found it interesting to study the society, it's main aspect and concepts included in it . I read about Marx , max etc and found some interest in it . The curriculum does tell concept relevant information society but I feel like there is a lot of need to research in Indian societal concept and their work and interaction. Teaching method can be interesting, interactive rather than being boring concept reading in class

Life of an Average Student in SVC,DU

Likes

I like the crowd. It's very interactive and has people from different races.
The infrastructure is really good with clean surroundings.
The classrooms are facilitated with screens for effective learning.

Dislikes

The area nearby is really expensive so it's difficult to find PGs.
There is lack of sanitation in college canteen.
Difficult to get into hostels as they have limited rooms.

Placement cell is good and effective. It continuously provides multiple internship opportunities for students of different courses. Package goes as high as 30 LPA and average salary is around 4-5 lpa.

My cousin was a student of Mathematics at Sri Venkateswara College. Based on her experience in the same I will list down some key features of the college:

Faculty- The faculty of this college is without that the best. The professors of Mathematics and even other courses will make you fall in love with the subject. Just stay committed to your course.
Infrastructure- Since you will spend a few years in college, infrastructure matters a lot. Classrooms are well-designed and laboratories are well-equipped. Hostel accommodation is provided for the topper of each course. A new science block is being constructed to add to its infrastructure.
Extracurricular activities- If you are a student here, you will get enough exposure to develop your personality. Apart from academics, this college has a list of glamour studded societies in every field.
Placements- The science students get lesser opportunities as compared to others. A package of around 5-6 LPA is offered to Economic students.
Nexus- This is the most awaited cultural fest of the college. It’s a 3-day fest with a list of versatile activities. It’s the most glamorous event in the college.
Sports- The college has a lush green field with a modern cricket pitch. It also has teams in almost every game like Cricket, Football, Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Chess, Athletics, Squash.
